Peter Millican Law has helped almost 1000 businesses get off the ground, by giving entrepreneurs insight into the legal requirements of running a business as part of PNE Enterprise’s eight week course for start-up companies.

Peter Millican of Peter Millican Law has been delivering the workshops for approximately 8 years, helping the people behind our region’s start-up businesses.  He advises on company structures, basic documentation including client and employment contracts, company handbooks and procedures, leasing of commercial properties, tax planning, protecting partners within a business and more.

Melissa Middleton, Programme Manager for PNE Enterprise, commented:

“Peter has helped so many North East businesses get started, from the smallest such as sandwich shops and takeaways to much bigger businesses including hotels, and manufacturers.  His presentations are engaging and entertaining, and we’re confident every person leaves much better informed.”

Some of the North East businesses that have benefitted from Peter’s help during their start-up phase have included Weekend Box which provides fortnightly weekend activities for children and parents, and Manhau Cha Bubble Tea which has expanded from a ‘mobile pop-up stall’ into an online delivery business.

Peter commented:
“It’s important that anyone setting up a business has an understanding of the legal requirements for running that business.  Sharing this information gives these entrepreneurs the best start.  They can give their new business the most appropriate structure and ensure the owners are protected, that contracts are legal, and, if they’re employing, that they understand their responsibilities as an employer.  At the start, when you’re unlikely to have a budget for professional advice, it’s important to be able to attend courses like the ones provided by PNE, and through these have access to appropriate and vitally important advice.”

Peter Millican Law has welcomed a new experienced Commercial Property Lawyer to our expanding team.

Ricky Handa has joined the firm to respond to the rapid growth in commercial property work.  Ricky, who joins Peter Millican Law from Square One Law brings in depth knowledge of the North East commercial property market and has a wide range of experience including acquisitions and disposals of commercial property, landlord and tenant, lease advisory and property refinancing.

Ricky, from North Shields, commented:

“I act for a range of clients, from experienced and sophisticated property investors looking to grow their existing portfolio, to start-up businesses getting off the ground.  What’s important is that all my clients receive a stand-out level of service.

“I enjoy working with North East businesses and making a contribution to shaping the landscape of the region.  The morning walk into the office is also made far more interesting by passing a number of the projects I’ve worked on.

Peter Millican, owner of Peter Millican Law, added: “Ricky’s experience, which extends beyond the North East to the London market, is proving invaluable to us.  Such is the success of this area of our work, we expect to be adding several new members to the team around Ricky in the coming months.”

Away from his commercial property work, Ricky is a referee for the Northumberland Rugby Referee Society and officiates matches across Northumberland, Durham and further afield.  He was also invited to and subsequently took charge of refereeing the inaugural North East Property Rugby vs Yorkshire Property Rugby match earlier this year.
