Peter Millican Law joined the NECC members to set a new world record – The largest human currency symbol.
The sterling effort – which came in the shape of a pound sign, formed by 327 people – took place at the NECC’s (North East Chamber of Commerce) Business Week as part of its 200th anniversary celebrations.
The stunt, to promote inward investment into the North-east, was carried out at Northumbria University.
And now the confirmation has come through from Guinness World Records that the record attempt is official.
NECC Chief Executive James Ramsbotham, who was part of the giant pound sign, said: “We have events throughout the year to mark our 200th anniversary, but this was definitely one of the most unusual.
“The members who took part had to adhere to some strict guidelines to fulfil the criteria, but it’s all paid off now we’re officially in the Guinness Book of Records.
“It was all great fun, but hopefully also carries the serious message that we are open for investment in the North-east.”
