A young firm specialising in recruitment for the artificial intelligence sector worldwide has settled into a new commercial office space in Newcastle, having been helped in securing the lease by Millican Law.
R2 Global Recruitment Services, which has grown from two to seven staff in its first six months of business, turned to Ricky Handa of Millican Law’s Commercial Property department to advise on its office move. The company’s new offices, in The Pearl in central Newcastle, will allow the team to continue their projected growth to 12 members of staff by the end of 2019.
Ryan Best, Co-Founder and CEO of R2, commented: “Having someone with Ricky’s understanding and experience to finalise the terms of the lease on our behalf has put us in the strongest position possible, allowing us to keep our eye on our business and not get distracted. We have established a valuable relationship with Millican Law, so much so that we will no doubt return to the firm for advice when needed, as our company continues to grow.”
R2 Global are a specialist recruiter for niche technology sectors including the artificial intelligence industry. R2 chose Newcastle-upon-Tyne as its European HQ owing to the availability of high-calibre graduates to help the firm meet its ambitious growth plans as they expand into Europe from the US.
Ricky Handa, Associate Solicitor at Millican Law added: “Chris, co-founder of R2, and I worked together in retail whilst at university. It was clear then that we were both looking to progress in our respective fields. That personal connection has made this transaction all the more satisfying.
“R2’s expertise in its niche market is clear, it’s the reason the firm has grown so rapidly in its first six months. It’s exciting to see a Newcastle start-up playing its part in staffing tech companies in Silicon Valley, and elsewhere in the US.”
Millican Law’s Commercial Property Team advise a wide range of tenants and landlords across various sectors. The firm has recently represented SeatGeek Sport Limited, a division of the New York-founded SeatGeek Enterprise, in securing office space in South Tyneside, as well as Kani Payments, a Newcastle-based fintech start-up, when moving into Central Newcastle offices.
